Peculiar connection with another language
The Russian language has three main genders. Among the words for the "days of the week", one is neuter, three are feminine, and the rest are masculine. The neuter one happens to be Sunday, while the masculine ones are Sunday's victims according to the Seven elements diagram. In other words, to determine the gender of the word for a specific "day of the week" in Russian, just check the Seven Elements diagram: if it can beat Sunday, it's feminine; if it loses to Sunday, it's masculine; if it is Sunday itself, then it's neuter.
